Large areas may require additional sections (sold separately). Five interlocking sections adjust in 10 degree increments and can be angled or set in a straight line as needed. Included in the 5-piece basic set is a walk through gate section that opens in either direction with a simple one hand adult release. The Hearth Gate is 29 1/2" high and constructed of strong tubular steel with a black non toxic, heat-resistant finish that is easy to maintain and blends with any decor. Measuring is easy - Simply determine the area to protect or isolate. Place objects at 24" intervals along the line of the intended gate configuration. Good product. It looks good and is flexible/versatile. The plastic connectors seem a bit cheap--3 of ours arrived broken (in shipping). That's our only concern.

We are on our second Hearth Gate this year. The plastic pieces that are supposed to swivel when you open the gate don't swivel like they are supposed to and it snaps! It is a great gate, it keeps the kids away from our wood burning stove and it looks attractive given the purpose but for the price, I would have expected better quality. I am going to call the company to see if this part can be replaced or else I will have to make another return. I would give up at this point but I don't know of another hearth gate.

stopped using the fireplace, however, it is great at surrounding the stone hearth. We LOVE this gate, it is tough and easy to install and manipulate. I would highly recommend this gate!
Ideal for its intended useMar 27, 2010
We purchased this item to create a safety zone around our wood burning stove. The Hearth Guard fits the bill perfectly. We have a slightly raised and 0ddly shaped brick floor around the area and pivoting sectioned allowed us to neatly surround the stove. The black finish of the product matched the wood stove so it looks as if it was designed to be there. The gate is sturdy enough enough when in place. There are some plastic parts that might become an issue if the unit was moved frequently but in most cases the gate would remain in place permanently (or at least seasonally). This item is not cheap, especially if you need to purchase extensions. Yet it is a small price to pay to protect from serious burns.
